DevOps
You are:
- a system administration geek with Ruby chops.
- passionate about Debian/Ubuntu.
- obsessive about consistent configuration.
- uncompromising when it comes to updating and patching systems.
- insistent that everything must be automated.
- capable of collecting metrics and using them to guide decisions
- knowledgeable about OS subsystems and networking layers.
- up to speed on security best practices.
- a Mac or Linux user.
You will:
- guide network and hardware infrastructure decisions to maximize performance and minimize cost.
- implement and maintain configuration management using Chef.
- manage custom Debian/Ubuntu packages for deployment of our requirements.
- be responsible for ensuring that our systems and services are properly monitored.
- upgrade and maintain MongoDB, Redis, MySQL, Java, Ruby and Node.js installations.
- plan, implement, and manage backups for MongoDB, MySQL and Redis.
- plan and implement remote access strategy that is both secure and allows easy software deployment and server administration.
- create a system status page that is automatically updated during maintenance and outages.
- plan and implement a strategy for managing traffic during outages.
- plan and implement a system for consolidated application logging.
- document specifics of keeping each application up and running along with most likely sources of trouble.
- document hardware infrastructure and what software is running on each piece.
- help us escape the clutches of GoDaddy and take ownership of our domain registrations, DNS and SSL certificates.
- write software to help us automate miscellaneous manual procedures.
- be available to address issues as they arrive, day or night.
- interact and negotiate with vendors for competitive pricing and services.
Extra credit for familiarity with:
- MySQL, Redis and/or MongoDB administration.
- Node.js and/or Java development.
- Amazon AWS administration.
- Nginx configuration.
- FreeBSD and ZFS (deduplicating, pooling, snapshotting).
- ServerDensity monitoring and alerting.
- Maintaining a Campfire bot.
- HA and failover strategies.
- BIND.
